We are extremely fortunate to have had our school extended and renovated recently. On 1st April 2011 we moved into our bright, new school extension which has eight classrooms, three learning support rooms, three offices, a large hall with kitchen area, staffroom, Aoibhneas Unit with two classrooms, kitchen area, social area, ball pool and sensory room.
We have a private car park with a safe and scenic walk way from the school grounds.
Our tree was commissioned under the “Per Cent for Art Scheme” and the successful artist chosen to complete the work was Paul Finch. Following workshops with the children in each class they then drew what they would like to see represented on the tree. Paul incorporated their drawings into his work and the completed sculpture is something that we are all proud of.
The tree comprises of four branches.
- The yellow branch represents our school community – it shows children playing, our old school bell which went into retirement when the school was renovated. Also depicted are areas of the curriculum with music notes, clock, jigsaw pieces, drama and sums included. A very important part of this branch is the hands of friendship.
- The blue branch represents our rural location. Included in this are flowers and birds, a tractor, animals and an apple tree.
- The red branch represents our local areas of history including St Cronan, The Round Tower, The West Gable and High Cross.
- The green branch represents nature with leaves, flowers, butterflies included in it.
