Fin returned to the school again passing on his skill in pottery making.  Pupils from Junior and Senior Infants along with 1st Class, 3rd Class and 5th Class enjoyed getting their hands dirty to make some wonderful creations.   Pictured here are pupils from 3rd Class along with their “heads”!

Our annual home made crib project took place this week.  Third Class pupils made cribs from various materials.  A huge amount of work was evident – great thought and care went into the making of the cribs.  There were some unusual materials used.  We had glass figurines, ones made from the cores of kitchen paper, hand painted ones.  There was a wide variety of crib structures also.   The pupils were so proud to have their cribs on display in the hall where all the classes at assembly could view them.  Well done to you all.

In our pottery session last week Fin showed us how to make a head.  He  gave us some modelling clay which we rolled to get all the air out of it. We rolled the two pieces of clay in two balls, put them together and shaped into an oval shape. This week we put the eyes and the nose onto our face.  To shape the nose Fin got us to roll some spare clay into a sausage shape, with a point on one end.  We attached this piece of clay and worked it with our fingers to form the nose.  We put a hole with a pencil for the eye sockets, rolled clay in a small ball for...

On Monday last the 11th June Third Class went on their school tour to Thomond Park and Bunratty Folk Park.   The excitment was palpable on Monday morning as the pupils boarded the bus.  First stop  was the home of Munster Rugby – Thomond Park.  In the museum the highlight was getting in to the dressing room belonging to the Munster Rugby team. Most of the class wanted to sit where Simon Zebo sits.   In Bunratty the pupils had a great time seeing the Castle and all the Old Irish Cottages – most of the pupils sampled some delicious fresh scones with raisins.   All agreed...

Willow Workshop Local Craftsman Paul Finch came to the school yesterday to give a willow workshop to the pupils in Third Class.  (Paul was the Artist who created our art sculpture of the tree in front of the school between Third Class and Junior Infants classrooms).  The pupils were taught how to weave willow to create a dome, an arch and a hedge.  These will hopefully take root and the sculptures will become a permanent growing structure.  Each child also made a willow fish to take home.  The pupils thoroughly enjoyed the workshop.
