Junior Infants learned all about St Brigid today. They listened to the story of St. Brigid and her cloak and sang St. Brigid’s song. A huge thank you to Tom’s mum, Ann who made a St. Brigid’s cross for every boy and girl in Junior Infants!!!

Last week we had a very special visitor in Junior Infants.  Eden’s parents brought in her pet rabbit Nibbles to visit the class. The children loved getting a chance to pet Nibbles and watch her hop around and eat some hay. Eden and her mum took Nibbles out of the cage and walked her around the room so the children could get a closer look at her. Unfortunately Nibbles had to go home before lunch but we had so much fun! We loved having Nibbles come visit us and look forward to her coming in again! We have promised to have her favourite foods, carrots and lettuce, ready for her as a treat. #gallery-2...

As many of you know, the Junior Infants had lots of fun being scientists and taking part in experiments over the past few months. We read story books and watched videos to get the ideas for our experiments and with a little help from Ms. Maher we launched into investigations. Firstly we wondered if we could build a house just like the 3 Little Pigs that would be strong enough to protect our pet rabbit from the Big Bad Wolf. We used lego for the bricks, plastic straws for the straw house and lollipop sticks for the house made of wood. At the end, the Big Bad Wolf (hairdryer!) came and huffed and...

We were lucky enough to be invited to a talk down in First Class by Eoghan Meagher. Eoghan is the Health and Safety Officer in Coolmore Stud and a parent in the school. We learned that farming is now the most dangerous job  in Ireland. Eoghan taught us about hazzards and what we can do to avoid them. Keeva volunteered to be our safety model and Ms Higgins got “harnessed up” and “locked on” to the projector. Eoghan showed us a video about being safe in the farm yard, especially when slurry is being agitated. Thanks to Eoghan for visiting and teaching us to be safer.

Junior Infants are getting ready for Halloween. We have learned poems about pumpkins and ghosts, and have read stories about witches and dragons. In Irish we have been learning vocabulary associated with Oíche Shamhna. We designed and made a Jack O Lantern together. Some boys and girls liked the smell and texture of the pumpkin and others were not too impressed!! Check out our class photos with our pumpkin! Try making your own Jack O Lantern at home (without the mess!) with this website: http://www.abcya.com/pumpkin_carving.htm

On Tuesday afternoon Junior Infants and Seniors Infants had a very special visit from ‘An Garda Síochána’! Don’t worry we were not in trouble!   Inspector Kelly and Garda Kelly came in to talk to us all about staying safe. Garda Kelly talked to us about staying safe while in the car. She told us we should always wear our seatbelts and no one should ever use their mobile phone while driving. Inspector Kelly talked to us about how to stay safe while cycling. He told us we should always wear our helmets and make sure our bicycles are in proper working order.   They showed...

We were absolutely delighted this year to receive a phone call advising us that we had a winner in the INTO Handwriting Competition.  Ava in Junior Infants had come first in the regional final!  This is a great achievement ! Our delight was doubled when we received a second phone call  telling us that Jamie in Aoibhneas Class 1 was also a prizewinner – Jamie had been awarded a Certificate of Achievement. Both pupils attended a function in Tullamore where they received their prizes.         Well done Ava and Jamie!
