Friday was a fantastic celebration for all in Scoil Chrónáin Naofa with the opening of our newest facility – a ball wall. The official opening was the final celebration of our action packed Schools Activity Week when the children sampled many different activities such as zumba, hip hop dancing, target practice, golf, tug o war, hurling and camogie. On Friday the pupils were delighted to welcome special guests past pupil and Offaly Captain David King along with Tipperary Hurler Patrick (Bonner) Maher. The event began with a ball wall session for the hurlers and camogie players in 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th Class given by David and Patrick. This followed with a blessing by Fr Michael Harding and a warm welcome to everyone from Principal Brendan Hanamy. David and Patrick both said a few words encouraging the children to keep active in whatever sport they enjoy. Third Class sang a Dromakeenan Hurling Song written by Third Class Teacher Geraldine O Meara. The children were treated to a party in their classrooms sponsored by ball wall contractor Liam O Meara while the parents enjoyed refreshments in the school hall provided by our hard working Parents Association. Thanks to all the parents who supported our fundraiser, the timber raffle which was co-ordinated by Bom member Enda Dooley and the local clubs – Ballyskenach and Killavilla Hurling Club, Coolderry Hurling Club and Roscrea Hurling Club for their donations.
