Active School’s Week kicked off on Monday with Zumba by Irinya. On Tuesday Lisa put us through our paces with lots of new dances. On Wednesday Emmett from Offaly Sports Partnership had us all up and running with Athletics and not even the rain could put a damper on our exercise! On Thursday Junior and Senior Infants made their way through an obstacle course while Third and Fifth were in full swing, golfing with Bobby. Crinkill Handball Club treated Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Class to lessons at the ball wall. Cathy from Tug of War Ireland was on hand to show Second and Third Class the skills involved in her sport. Friday was another energetic day with archery for Fifth and Sixth. The hurling and camogie teams welcomed two special guests for a skills session at the ball wall. David King and Patrick ‘Bonnar’ Maher were very impressed.

Getting fit doesn’t have to be complicated and we have loads of space for activity right here on our school grounds! Sometimes we overlook the great benefits of just getting some fresh air and stretching their legs! As little as 20 minute bursts of exercise a few times a day is just as beneficial for our bodies as long sessions. Two competitions were held in school for Active Schools Week – the first was a slogan competition.

Congratulations to Kate in 5th Class who won the Active Flag slogan competition in the school:
“Make sure to exercise each day
We can jump and we can play
Come along and have some fun,
Active schools for everyone!

The second competition was to design a poster – well done to winners Cassie, Fia and Nicole from Second Class. It was a fantastic week from start to finish and a special thank you to everyone who got involved from the local community.
