On Sunday last Scoil Chrónáin Naofa, Dromakeenan’s school choir travelled to The Hub in Kilkenny to take part in the Cross Border Peace Proms 2016. The choir, made up of boys and girls from 4th to 6th Class, were part of the 900 strong Cross Border Peace Choir that entertained and thrilled the 2,000 strong audience for over two hours. The concert which was led by the Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland under the renowned conductor Greg Beardsell brought music to life with a unique blend of symphonic, traditional, folk and modern pop music. The soloists Patricia Treacy (violinist), Megan Ruby Walsh (soprano), Emma Cahill (tenor), Sarah Richmond (mezzo soprano) and Laura Murphy really added to the occasion and mesmerised the audience with their singing, and on a number of times received standing ovations. However, the real heroes on the day were the boys and girls and their teachers from schools throughout Ireland and they received the loudest and longest applause of all. A big thank you to Music teacher Ms Ailbhe Kelly for her hard work during the year and to Mrs Maher and Mr Hanamy for accompanying the choir on the day and giving the boys and girls an opportunity to experience and be part of this fantastic event.
